Using NET1, NET3 & Next-Gen NET

Our new range of Network Switches are designed to integrate seamlessly into your network set up at the point where it matters most, immediately before the audio system. With both SFP fibre and Ethernet connections, there are different wiring configurations available so this article will outline those options.

Ethernet-only switch (no fibre) NET1, NET3, Next-Gen NET

The NET replaces the standard router or consumer switch connection that feeds the listening room. It connects all audio components, including streamers, music servers, and NAS’ (network attached storage), on a clean network segment. All four copper Ethernet ports are available for this purpose, with the switch positioned between the wider home network and the audio equipment. This setup assumes there is no available fibre connection to use with the SFP port, or you’re using a NET1 which does not feature an SFP port.

Fibre-isolated switch (fibre in) – NET3, Next-Gen NET
For maximum isolation, the upstream network connects to the NET3 and Next-Gen NET fibre port as an input, removing all electrical continuity between the router and the audio system. The wider network, including any ground loops or interference, is fully separated at the point of entry. NET3 and Next-Gen NET then delivers a shorter clean copper signal to the connected audio components via its RJ45 ports. In most scenarios, this is the setup recommended by Innuos.

Ethernet switch with Fibre-isolated streamer (fibre out) – NET3, Next-Gen NET

If the streamer or music server includes a fibre input, the NET3 and Next-Gen NETB’s SFP port can be used as a dedicated clean output directly to that device whilst the upstream network router is connected to the NET3 and Next-Gen NET by Ethernet. This provides the highest level of electrical isolation between the switch and the endpoint streamer and may therefore be recommended for suitable streamers and when there are minimal other network devices connected.
